What Causes Facial Aging?

While “getting older” may seem like the obvious answer, there are actually a wide array of factors that can accelerate the process of facial aging, including:

While most of these factors are avoidable, there are some that are not. For those instances, there are facial rejuvenation treatments. Many of the treatment techniques are non-invasive or minimally invasive. They can provide highly satisfactory results without the risks involved in a permanent surgical treatment.

Botox Treatments

Botox is a type of neurotoxin that can help to reduce or eliminate the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. Botox is made from a purified protein. It is injected into the skin with the use of a small needle in order to temporarily block nerve impulses, causing facial muscles to relax and wrinkles to disappear.
Botox takes effect in one to two weeks and lasts for up to three or four months.

Other Uses of Botox

Botox is not just useful for reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It also has a number of other medical applications.

Botox can be used to treat the following:

If you’re looking to revitalize the appearance of your skin, Botox may be a viable solution for you.

Xeomin Treatments

Xeomin is very similar to Botox. It’s a neurotoxin injection that is intended to reduce or eliminate severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles.
The biggest difference between the two treatments is that Xeomin has been shown to remain more effective over multiple treatments. It takes effect faster and has longer-lasting results than Botox.

Xeomin is administered through a simple injection with a very small needle. The process is very short and can generally be completed within a half-hour. The treatment will take effect in about five days and typically lasts for three to six months.

Other Uses of Xeomin

Like Botox, Xeomin can sometimes be used to treat muscle spasms, migraines, overactive bladder, and hyperhidrosis, but it has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of excessive drooling.

Dermal Filler Treatments

Another option for patients who want to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles is a dermal filler treatment. This treatment involves the injection of a material made of collagen, calcium hydroxyapatite, and hyaluronic acid into areas of the face that have been affected by the aging process.
The most common areas in which dermal fillers are applied are the cheeks, lips, and around the mouth. Filling these areas out can help to reduce creases and give features a fuller, more youthful look.

Dermal fillers can be temporary or permanent. Most will dissolve in about six months to a year, but others can last for a lifetime.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy
for Facial Rejuvenation and
Bone Regeneration

At Palisades Dental Care, we offer platelet-rich plasma therapy for patients who want to reduce the effects of aging and revitalize the appearance of their damaged skin. This non-surgical treatment is a safe and effective way to look and feel younger using platelets from your blood in a cutting-edge process that allows your skin to heal and renew itself.

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

To answer this question, you need to know what platelets and plasma are.
Platelets are blood cells that clump up to prevent bleeding and help with the healing process. Low platelet counts can result in a wide array of medical conditions, many of which are connected with the body’s inability to heal properly.
Plasma is the liquid part of your blood that helps to carry all of the cells and platelets throughout your body. A vast majority of plasma is water, but it is also made up of proteins. The major roles of plasma include maintaining blood pressure, providing muscles with electrolytes, balancing pH levels in the body, and helping with blood clotting and immunity.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is exactly what it sounds like: Blood plasma that has a high concentration of platelets in it. A platelet-rich plasma shot is created by taking blood and running it through a centrifuge in order to separate the plasma and platelets out. Next, it is run through a centrifuge one more time in order to concentrate the platelets into a small amount of plasma for injection.

Benefits of Platelet-Rich Plasma

There are a wide array of applications for PRP, including the treatment of injured tendons, injured muscles, tendinitis, arthritis, bone regeneration, and even hair loss. However, some of the most fascinating benefits for PRP are in the world of cosmetics.

Potential cosmetic benefits of platelet-rich plasma treatment include:

These are just a few of the reasons to consider a PRP facial rejuvenation procedure.

The PRP Facial Rejuvenation Procedure

PRP facials are fast, easy, and mostly pain-free. They can revitalize your appearance to give you a newfound sense of self-confidence. The procedure is relatively simple and won’t take longer than 30 minutes to an hour.
First, blood must be drawn to create the platelet-rich plasma that will be used in your facial rejuvenation treatment. Just like any normal blood test, a practitioner will use a needle to draw a small amount of blood from your arm through a quick and relatively painless process.
Next, your practitioner will place the blood into a vial and run it through a centrifuge in order to isolate the platelets. They will then run it through the centrifuge once more to create as high of a concentration of platelets as possible. This whole process takes about 15 minutes.
Then, your skin will be cleaned and a mild numbing agent will be applied to the area that will receive treatment. This is followed by a process known as “micro-needling,” which works to stimulate the collagen beneath the skin in preparation for the PRP injection.

Finally, when the PRP has been prepared, it will be injected into the areas of the face that you wish to rejuvenate. Results can begin to show within three or four weeks following the procedure and can last for a year or longer.

PRP for Bone Regeneration

Platelet-rich plasma can also help to regenerate bone structure. Although bones have their own miraculous ability to successfully regenerate, even after sustaining considerable injury, they still have limitations. With PRP therapy, bone injuries can be stimulated to healfaster.
There are a number of bone regeneration PRP treatments that are applicable in the realm of dentistry, as well. PRP therapy can be used in a number of procedures that involve the jaw bone, as well as any treatment that requires a bone graft or a tooth extraction.
